THE TWO FACES OF TECHNOLOGY
Year 7 was asked to write an essay on the pros and cons of technology and we have selected one of the many excellent essays that came from this assignment.
Modern day life cannot be imagined without technology. We have become so addicted to technology – it helps us get through every day tasks, for example, we use timers when we bake.
There are many positive sides to technology, some of them being health, messaging and many more. Health has improved significantly due to the progress in technology. We are now able to discover many diseases and get treatment to stop them from evolving, or, in case of already evolving diseases, we are even able to cure them thanks to many new inventions (which are technology). Messaging is also a positive side to technology. With telephones, we are able to communicate with people easily through texts, phone calls and video calls.
However, there is also a very negative side to technology. Kids nowadays are addicted to technology – they barely even go outside any more. In addition to that, technology causes radiation. Many people have suffered the consequences of technology – from not being able to have kids to getting cancer. Kids also suffer from many mental health issues, such as depression, anxiety and OCD.
To sum it all up, I believe the negative side overpowers the good side. Technology can be very useful, but at the same time very harmful. I think if technology were to be used in proper amounts, it would be an absolutely amazing thing that could truly help us become our best selves.
