As you probably know, we have winter shows for families and friends every December. Sometimes pupils sing, sometimes dance, sometimes, do a skit and sometimes recite poetry. This is a rare thing, however . our Year 2 wrote their very own rhymes for the show. Last year they did phonics, this year they learned how to rhyme and do poetry. This is what they came up with, on their own, in pairs and with a little bit of help from their teachers Ms Hollo and Ms Ashley. Some rhyme, some are free verse, some are on the verge of being a haiku poem. Enjoy their poetic images!
When I wake up, I can see through the window
that the cold wind blows the snow. (B)

I was eating a candy cane
in the glowing snow and the freezing rain. (J)

Ice on our toes
Snow on our nose
Icicles on our bicycles. (S)

My parrot would really like my snowman's carrot,
I told him to wait till the snow changes state,
And then my parrot can have a carrot.(K)

I saw a frost-ghost on my way
Through the dark woods on Christmas Day. (M)

In the sparkling white snow,
I saw a big, black, dark crow.
I thought about the snow-crow. (A)

Snowing, raining,
cold winter day.
I need my woolly hat, scarf and big boots today. (A)

I play with my sister - a snowball fight,
Deep and dark in the snowy night. (H)

It was glowing in the snow;
the mountain was in the sunshine.
The sun reflected off the mountainside. (A)

I went sledging with my family on the hill.
Oh, what a thrill! (L)

I would like to ski on Sljeme.
At Hanukkah I open my present - and it's a microphone set! (I)

I was skiing while also thinking
Of drinking... hot chocolate. (M)

I eat carrots, beans and ginger
Because they are healthy in winter. (F)
